Hive construction is made from premium materials. We did not use treated lumber inside the hives because this contact may be deadly to the bees. However, we did use some treated lumber in limited amounts on the outside so the hive will last longer.

Painting is usually done using 3-4 layers with a bio-friendly paint. 

All hives have been built with patina, allowing them to look like a little older structure. Thus the hives may show some slight imperfections and/or repairs. Each hive takes between 30 to 40 hours to construct, therefore orders may take a couple of weeks, according to the number of orders we have to fill. Each hive weighs between 50 and 60 pounds. We would encourage buyers to pick up their order. We are located in Covington, Louisiana, north of New Orleans. We can deliver within a 75 mile radius of New Orleans for $90-$120 according to the model selected.

We suggest that you  place your hive under some type of covering, like a tree or small shed roof for two reasons:

1. During warmer months the bees will not have to work as hard to maintain proper hive temperature, thus staying healthier and allowing for larger amount of honey production.

2. Hives will last longer when covered by a tree or shed roof.
